Why we send students there
Most of our students are adults picking a first or second instrument, and the question that actually stalls them is not which brand is best. It is whether the guitar in front of them suits the music they want to play and the hands they already have.
S Gear works one instrument at a time rather than pushing a house recommendation, which is the same way a teacher would go about it. That makes it easy for us to stay in the conversation: you send us the page for the instrument you like, we say what it would mean for your playing, and the supply side stays with them.
What they do
- The catalogue
- Guitars and basses across a range of shapes, finishes and price levels. We keep our own bilingual copy of it, so you can browse here and send a teacher the exact instrument you mean.
- Gear Hunter
- Searches beyond the catalogue: specific models, finishes, years, left-handed configurations, unusual specifications, used and discontinued instruments. Availability, condition, price and delivery are confirmed for each instrument; a match is not guaranteed.
- Pre-order and collectible
- Pre-order and collectible are separate. Price-on-enquiry listings are pre-orders without a numeric public price; pre-orders do not also appear as collectible.
- Tokyo setup work
- S Gear Studio works with BlackPX Workshop, an independently operated collaboration partner in Tokyo. Modification, upgrade and setup enquiries are available for Japan-made guitars and basses purchased through S Gear Studio or Gear Hunter that have not yet shipped. The proposed work, compatibility, price, timing and whether the work is advisable are assessed individually.
How buying works
Enquiry, then personal confirmation of instrument, condition, accessories, final price, currency, shipping and terms before invoicing. Website enquiries take no payment and reserve nothing.
How the two studios fit together
S Gear Studio handles guitar and bass selection, sourcing and pre-purchase conversation. Lost In Music teaches. We pass on what a teacher would look for, and the instrument side stays with them.
Purchasing, payment, delivery and after-sales are handled by S Gear Studio. Lost In Music advises on choosing an instrument.
